BREWSTER - At approximately 9:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance on Barons Way. Upon arrival officers found that the suspect, Ramon Lopez, age 30, had fled the area. An initial investigation revealed that Mr. Lopez had assaulted a family member, destroyed property within the residence, and attempted to prevent a call to police.
While checking the area, Mr. Lopez was spotted and a foot pursuit began. He fled into a heavily wooded area and officers were unable to locate him.
Using a new reverse 911 system, called SwiftReach, the Brewster Police sent out a recorded telephone message to area residents warning them about the suspect and asking them to call if he was observed.
At approximately 12:45 p.m. police received a call from a citizen who had received the message. He advised that an individual matching that description was on Rt. 137 in the area of Underpass Rd.
Officers responded to the area and observed Lopez attempt to hide in a business in that area. The Officers entered the business, located Lopez, and placed him under arrest.
Mr. Lopez has been charged with: malicious destruction of property, domestic assault & battery, violation of a restraining order, Intimidation of a witness, and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned in Orleans District Court later today.
